First on the agenda was the ad that will be in The Brunswick Beacon on Thursday, December 8th and in The Sun News on Sunday, December 11th.
Kathy reported that we now have approximately 61 paid members. She would like to eventually send out a questionnaire/survey to the members. After discussion, it was decided to wait until the first of the year to approach this
.
Suzy will get cost on printing the CMA window decal. We would like to get these by the first of the year for everyone to display.
It was decided instead of a business meeting in January that we would have a social. Kathy will get the place, time and costs and Suzy will send out a Save-the-date as soon as possible.
Kathy and Anna met with the new Town Mayor. Mayor Knight is planning a bon-fire for New Year’s Eve and wanted to see if the Merchants may want to participate with the activities. After discussion, it was decided that Kathy will report to the Mayor that we feel the association as a group would not be able to participate but we will inform the Merchants of the event and how to contact the town for more information.
Kathy adjourned the meeting.

Merchants Association Meeting
Minutes
April 5, 2011
Meeting was held at The Yard Bird Emporium located in the Low Country Stores.
Michael Abushakra opened the meeting.
He indicated that a piece of paper with information asking Merchants not to support our local newspaper had been circulating and wanted to bring to our attention that the Merchants Association was not in any way associated or supported this circulation.
First on the agenda was the July 4th celebration. Michael has the contract for the pyrotechnics company that needs to be signed. He made a suggestion that we may want to bring in another service organization to share responsibilities of setting up and working that day, such as Elks, VFW or American Legion. Several ideas were presented and it was decided that we will keep it the same as last year. But more volunteers and participation from the Merchants will be needed to help support this celebration.
Mary Keefe will help with vendors but would like to have additional help as well. The vendor prices were set as: $35 Merchant member and $50 non-member. Merchant members will be given first choice. It was also decided that we will have only one band.
Michael will sign the contract for the fireworks.
Please contact Mary at the Yard Bird if you are able to volunteer for help with vendors.
Next on agenda was the Sidewalk Sale. It will be held on Saturday, April 16th. Discussed was the advertising for this event. Several newspapers will be contacted. It was suggested that as many Merchants participate as possible to make this the biggest town-wide sale of the year.
Meeting adjourned

She said they would possibly do an article on Calabash and have merchants’ advertisements in and around the article.
Business card size ad starts at $1,000 each per year with a minimum of 10 businesses on a page. They also own a radio station where the same advertisers would get air time.
It was announced that a few Calabash merchants have already committed to advertising in this magazine.
